Are flip flops bad for all types of feet?

I%26#039;ve read and heard that flip flops are bad for your feet because they don%26#039;t offer much support. I want to know if they%26#039;re bad for ALL types of feet or just flat footed people. I have chronic foot problems. I need to lose weight, I walk on the sides of my feet, I have high arches, and a torn ACL. I don%26#039;t wear heels, just tennis, and crocs. I%26#039;ve started walking more and my 1inch (tapered) flip flops are THE MOST comfortable shoes to walk on the pavement in! Surprizing i know but it%26#039;s true! I don%26#039;t walk very fast and the shoes don%26#039;t wear on the sides like my tennis and crocs! In fact these flip flops are the longest lasting shoes I%26#039;ve owned. Usually i have to buy new ones every 3mos or so b/c the sides are so worn down. So, am I going to damage my ankles or knees or cause my arch to drop by wearing them constantly?

Are flip flops bad for all types of feet?
Yes, they are bad for all types of feet. I work for a foot doctor %26amp; we constantly have people coming in complaining of foot problems only to find out that their main shoe is a flip flop. And yes, they too say they are the most comfortable type of shoe they own. Crocs are also bad for your feet by the way. better off in a Dansko or Merrill clog.

Eventually your arch will collapse. Your feet change as you age so without proper support now the tendons %26amp; ligaments will weaken %26amp; then cause your arch %26amp; other joints to compensate which will create pain %26amp; problems.

Your best bet is to buy a good quality walking sneaker in the proper width %26amp; length for walking. Flip flops are only ok for a short period of time. You can buy better open shoes that have a supportive footbed; a foot doctor can order custom made ones for one as well by taking a mold of your foot.

Reply:I have been wearing nothing but flip flops and bare feet for five years and my podiatrist has told me I have very healthy feet every time I go to see her. So maybe it depends on how much quality your flip flops are, mine have lasted me a long time and are really comfortable (but bare feet is even more comfortable than that).
Reply:In India, We mostly use flip flops. We don%26#039;t find any difficulty.
Reply:i don%26#039;t think they are good for any type of foot type. even though u might not know it, its only making ur foot problems worse. just don%26#039;t walk in your flip flops for too long.
